HARRISBURG, Pa., May 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Nearly 100 APPRISE volunteers who help Medicare beneficiaries understand their health insurance and related issues were honored for their efforts at a luncheon ceremony today in Lancaster. These volunteers provide services through the state's 52 Area Agencies on Aging.
"APPRISE volunteers perform an invaluable service to our older citizens who need help in understanding complicated Medicare and Medicaid and prescription issues and how they can get the coverage they need," said Pennsylvania Department of Aging Secretary John Michael Hall.
Statewide, there are more than 400 APPRISE volunteers who provide important free information to anyone on Medicare in Pennsylvania. Assistance is provided about services covered under Medicare Parts A, B and D, choices about Medicare coverage, the appeals process and financial assistance among other areas.
Awards ceremonies for the other volunteers will take place across the state during the next several weeks.
