Ovid Highlights the Latest Productivity Workflow Enhancements to Ovid Universal Search(TM) and its New Psychology Lexicon at London's Online Information 2009 Conference

NEW YORK, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Ovid, part of Wolters Kluwer Health and a global leader in the development and delivery of customizable electronic research information for the medical, scientific and academic markets, will be showcasing recent enhancements to Ovid Universal Search, our first-to-market cross-platform search solution, and the implementation of a new psychology lexicon, based on the American Psychological Association's (APA's) Thesaurus of Psychological Index Terms, at this year's Online Information conference, which is being held beginning today through December 3rd at London's Olympia exhibition center. Conference attendees can also learn more about Nursing@Ovid, as well as new content offerings. Ovid is exhibiting at Booth #512.

"We're pleased to participate at Online Information to share with key customers and publishing partners the evolution of our search platform focused on improving user productivity and efficiencies in accessing full text to make important decisions," said Karen Abramson, President & CEO of Wolters Kluwer Health Medical Research. "We're delighted to showcase at Online this year enhancements to Ovid Universal Search as well as exciting developments in our lexicon development with the APA thesaurus that delivers a more comprehensive set of results -- adding tremendous value to our complete psychology offering on OvidSP."

Ovid Universal Search enables users to search all of their institution's subscribed content, regardless of whether that content is available via OvidSP or other content aggregators. Users can retrieve and manage their OvidSP and non-OvidSP (Universal Search) results within the OvidSP interface. The latest enhancements, deployed November 16th, are designed to improve navigation and customization of Universal Search results, and enable users to:

  • View all retrieved Universal Search records in one consolidated results set
  • De-duplicate Universal Search results
  • Easily identify duplicates to view their research trail
  • Link to full text from Universal Search results (when available)
  • Use Search Aid functionality for Universal Search results
  • Request additional Universal Search results beyond those already retrieved in the initial set

Ovid's new proprietary Psychology lexicon combines the American Psychological Association's (APA) robust Thesaurus of Psychological Index Terms with the Natural Language Processing (NLP) power of OvidSP's Basic Search. NLP's term expansion functionality broadens a user's search query when searching the APA databases of PsycINFO®, PsycCRITIQUES®, PsycBOOKS®, PsycARTICLES®, and PsycEXTRA® to include related terms and synonyms, delivering a more comprehensive set of results than any other platform.

Attendees are invited to attend 15-minute presentations in Ovid's Booth (#512) on Ovid Universal Search and the new Psychology lexicon. A third in-booth presentation updating attendees on Nursing@Ovid, Ovid's powerful nursing and allied health portal, is also scheduled. Ovid representatives will also be on hand to discuss the latest content acquisitions, including ebooks from the Royal Society of Chemistry, Oxford University Press, and Ovid's sister company Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW), as well as journals from CIG Media, AHC Media, and Springer Publishing.
