Otho’s Pest Management Explains How to Best Safeguard Homes From Uninvited Guests

Easy living is everyone’s goal during the summer; no one wants to deal with pests in their yards and homes. Unfortunately, the summer brings a whole variety of insects out of hiding, including fleas, ticks, bees and wasps. Otho’s Pest Management, a top pest control company based in Asheboro, wants to share some information on how homeowners can make the most of their summers without the stress of dealing with pests.

"We get a lot of questions from homeowners on better ways they can guard their homes from pests in between pest control treatments,” said Otho’s owner, Earl Smith.

Fleas are one of the biggest nuisances during the summer. They can spread disease and seriously affect the health of pets. They also spread very quickly, as adult fleas can lay about 300 eggs and those eggs can turn into adults within three weeks. Fleas will travel from the yard, onto pets and then into the home.

Bees and wasps pose another problem for homeowners. The invasive insects can make their homes in trees, under roof eaves or on equipment in yards, like ladders. Aside from a painful sting, they can cause severe allergic reactions in some people. According to the CDC, 90-100 people die each year due to allergic reactions caused by insect stings.

Another dangerous summer pest is the tick. Ticks are found throughout the US and they feed on animals and humans. According to the CDC, They must eat blood to survive and can find hosts by detecting breath, body odors, body heat, moisture or vibrations. Some species can even detect a host by a shadow. They cannot jump or fly, but rest on leaves and grass waiting to be transferred onto the host when they brush by.
