OrthoSynetics(TM) Donates Body Armor to New Orleans Police Department
Date:6/5/2008

Metairie-Based Company Helps to Fill Law Enforcement Need

METAIRIE, La., June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- OrthoSynetics(TM), the largest provider of business services to orthodontic and dental practices worldwide, announced today that its Community Relations Committee has donated body armor and additional state-of-the-art tactical equipment to the New Orleans Police Department.

Financial shortfalls in the wake of Hurricane Katrina have left the department in need of these supplies -- and left police officers at risk. A recent Time Magazine article ("New Orleans: Police Still Underfunded," Gilbert Cruz, 6/20/07) detailed the shortages of body armor caused by Katrina -- and the need for private donations to replace them.

"OrthoSynetics(TM) is part of the New Orleans community. Our company's employees and families live, work and play in this community, and we feel our police officers should be fully protected while they work to keep us safe," said Chris Roussos, president and CEO of OrthoSynetics(TM). "We hope this contribution helps protect our police officers, make our community stronger, and demonstrates our commitment to the New Orleans community."

Roussos, a former Army Ranger, reached out to a former colleague on behalf of OrthoSynetics(TM) to purchase the equipment from Armor Technologies(TM), a subsidiary of Diamondback Tactical, headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona.

The donated equipment includes four large Custom Armor Technologies(TM) NIJ Level 3A Concealable Body Armor, and four extra-large Custom Armor Technologies(TM) NIJ Level 3A Concealable Body Armor.

"We thank OrthoSynetics(TM) and all the company's employees for stepping up to the plate to help the police department and the community," said New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Warren J. Riley. "It is the generosity of companies like OrthoSynetics(TM) that have allowed this community to rebuild and meet the challenges of the past few years."
