Oracle OpenWorld 2009 Panel to Feature Two Experts from National Healthcare Leadership Organizations -- the FDA and GS1 Healthcare US -- with Loftware and Oracle Representatives

PORTSMOUTH, N.H., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Loftware, Inc., a 20+ year leader in flexible and scalable label output management solutions, announced today it will be participating at a major panel discussion focused on healthcare technology and impending federal mandates on medical products marking standards at the upcoming Oracle OpenWorld 2009 in San Francisco, October 11-15.

The panel, speaking to the topic, "Oracle, the FDA, GS1, and Loftware: Improving Supply Chain Safety and Standards," will include Jay Crowley, Senior Advisor for Patient Safety, Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration; Neil de Crescenzo, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Oracle's Health Sciences Global Business Unit; Christopher Little, Vice President of Marketing at Loftware; and John Roberts, Director, GS1 Healthcare US, an industry group that focuses on driving the adoption and implementation of GS1 standards in the healthcare industry to improve patient safety and supply chain efficiency. An Oracle customer from a University-based medical center is also expected to participate.

The panel session will occur at 4:00pm on Monday, October 12(th) in Stanford Room of Westin Market Street Hotel.

Jay Crowley, FDA

Jay Crowley is Senior Advisor for Patient Safety, in FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health. He is interested in developing and implementing new methods and techniques for identifying and resolving problems with the use of medical devices. Jay has held variety of positions over his 20 years at FDA. Currently, Jay has responsibility for implementing the Unique Device Identification requirements of the 2007 FDA Amendments Act. He holds a master's degree in risk analysis and a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or USFDA) is an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services and is responsible for regulating and supervising the safety of foods, dietary supplements, drugs, vaccines, biological medical products, blood products, medical devices, radiation-emitting devices, veterinary products, and cosmetics. It is headquartered in Rockville, MD with 223 field offices supported by 13 laboratories located throughout the United States, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.

Neil de Crescenzo, Oracle

Oracle's Health Sciences Global Business Unit was formed in 2008 to have overall divisional authority over all Oracle healthcare applications which today range from clinical, data capture, thesaurus management, and adverse event reporting to life sciences data management, and clinical trial management systems. Prior to being named Senior Vice President and General Manager of this unit in 2008, Neil de Crescenzo served as Group Vice President of healthcare and life sciences at Oracle. He previously led Perot Systems Corp.'s health care provider strategy unit and was healthcare industry leader at IBM Corp. He also has served in administrative positions at Massachusetts Medical Center, Lahey Clinic and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.

Christopher Little, Loftware, Inc.

Christopher Little began his career at NASA's Mission Control supporting ascent, orbit and descent simulations of Space Shuttle flights. He joined start-up Trinity Computing to create the world's best-selling computerized charting system for open-heart surgery, sold globally by 3M. In 1993, he joined the start-up Healthcare Communications as Vice President of Marketing where he launched Cloverleaf, the world's leading interface engine. A co-founder at Health Language, Inc., in 1999, Mr. Little launched the concept-based indexing engine, LE, for managing multiple medical vocabularies. He also served in key marketing positions at Wyeth and Lotus/IBM. He is a full member of IEEE, SCIP, HIMSS, AMIA, and AMA. He joined Loftware in 2006.

John Roberts, GS1 Healthcare US

Since 1998, John Roberts has been the Director of Healthcare for GS1 US, responsible for the adoption and implementation of the GS1 System standards in U.S. healthcare. His most recent initiative has been as the program manager for the GLN Registry for Healthcare(R). The Registry is the source for all healthcare locations within the United States. Prior to the GLN Registry, he pioneered the adoption of GS1 DataBar formerly known as Reduced Space Symbology and the Composite Component in U.S. Healthcare. John was awarded the prestigious WayPaver award in May 2008 for his achievements. Earlier he was with the US Department of Defense (DOD) in the role of ensuring that the military services receive the right medical product at the right time at the right cost.
