Optometry Career Conferences Set for Five N.C. Campuses in March

RALEIGH, N.C., March 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- North Carolina students interested in earning the doctor of optometry degree are encouraged to attend the 2009 Optometry Career Conferences sponsored by College Foundation of North Carolina and the N.C. State Education Assistance Authority. Conferences are scheduled at five locations around the state:

  • East Carolina University (Greenville, NC) - 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, Tuesday, March 24, 2009 in the Allied Health Lobby of the Health Sciences Building.
  • Winston-Salem State University (Winston-Salem, NC) - 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, Wednesday, March 25, 2009 in Room 210 of the W.B. Atkinson Science Building.
  • UNC-Charlotte (Charlotte, NC) - 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2009, in Room 109 of the Cone Center.
  • North Carolina State University (Raleigh, NC) - 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Thursday, March 26, 2009 in the Talley Student Center Ballroom (part of health career fair).
  • UNC-Chapel Hill (Chapel Hill, NC) - 10:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m., Friday, March 27, 2009 in the Great Hall of the Frank Porter Graham Student Union Building (part of health career fair).

The North Carolina Optometry Scholarship Loan (OSL) program provides funding for North Carolina residents pursuing doctor of optometry degrees at three participating out of state institutions: Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Awards are renewable for up to four years. Recipients must commit to work as optometrists in North Carolina for one year for each year of funding to repay the loan. Students who do not fulfill the obligation must repay the funds at an annual int
