Opioid Safety and Efficacy Web Resource for Clinicians Supports Education and Practice Needs
Date:2/13/2009

erformance indicators to make sure we are constantly improving the program we deliver. At present, site subscribers spend an average of 18 minutes on the site. When you consider how busy clinicians are that fact alone tells us that there is both a need for the information and clinicians are highly motivated to improve their practice."

Both Meyer and Boyes agree that the web resource meets practitioner's needs in a way that traditional symposia and publications cannot. "We are an 'on-demand' society. Meetings and publications will always be an important component in continuing medical education but when a clinician needs information to deal with a specific patient problem, they want answers at their fingertips in an array of formats to suit their learning preferences. And Emerging Solutions in Pain is a forerunner in immediately available and current information and resources when it comes to appropriate use of opioid medications and risk minimization strategies," says Meyer.

The most recent demographic analysis of the range of disciplines represented by current members reveals that 53% are physicians, 25% are nurses, with the remaining 22% split among pharmacists, psychologists, dentists, social services and other health care professionals. The majority of practitioners work in pain management (33%) with family practice and anesthesiology each contributing 19% to the total. In all, there are more than a dozen specialties represented in the ESP membership.
