Date:10/5/2018

Ophthalmic Instruments, Inc. (OII), a leading distributor of quality ophthalmic instruments, today announced their support of the 14th annual Major Rob Soltes Memorial Golf Tournament benefitting the Blinded Veterans Association. OII is, again, a gold sponsor of the golf tournament will be held on Columbus Day, Monday, October 8th at Oak Creek Golf Club in Irvine, Calif.

According to the Soltes Memorial website, there are 5,000 men and women that have been affected by severe penetrating eye injuries, nearly 50,000 have enrolled in the Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care System with Traumatic Brain Injury visual system impairment and countless numbers whom have not yet identified a current visual impairment. The Blinded Veterans Association (BVA) is an organization of blinded veterans helping blinded veterans.

“We are extremely happy to support such a worthy cause, one we have been behind since its inception,” said Scott Shone, president of Ophthalmic Instruments, Inc. “Since 2004, the Major Rob Soltes Memorial Golf Tournament has been raising money to support eye care services in the name of Dr. Rob Soltes who was the first U.S. Army Optometrist to be killed in action. In 2011, the Major Rob Soltes Memorial Blinded Veterans Association began supporting the Operation Peer Support Program of the BVA and their support has grown every year. I knew Rob, personally, and still keep in touch with his family so we are happy to play a role in this program.”
