On World Hearing Day, Sivantos Encourages Early Intervention, Offers Tips on Hearing Loss

On World Hearing Day, March 3, 2019, hearing aid technology leader Sivantos joins The World Health Organization (WHO) and other health, ear and hearing care organizations worldwide in drawing attention to the importance of early identification and intervention for hearing loss.

The WHO estimates that 1.1 billion teenagers and young adults worldwide are at risk of hearing loss – and that number is increasing. Beyond ear injuries and infections, long-term exposure to harmful sound levels can cause hearing loss, or ringing or buzzing in the ear (tinnitus) – no matter what your age.

Audiologist and Sivantos Clinical Educator Dr. Patricia “Tish” Ramirez offers these 5 tips to help protect the hearing you’ve got and address the hearing you may have lost.

1. Be honest with yourself. Do you find yourself missing lines in movies? Asking friends or colleagues to repeat themselves more often? Withdrawing in group conversations because they’re hard to follow? Even mild hearing loss can take its toll, both socially and professionally.

2. It won’t get better by itself. Currently, there is no medical or surgical treatment for hearing loss caused by noise, but the condition is treatable!

3. Check it out. Just like an annual physical, regular dentist appointments or eye exams, you should have your hearing checked regularly. To find a hearing care professional near you, visit

4. Take action. Does the idea of wearing a hearing aid make you cringe? Well, your concept of a hearing aid may be very outdated. A new generation of hearing aids are super slim, stylish, virtually invisible, and can connect to your phone, music and TV.

5. Practice Safe Listening. If you do have hearing loss, you should take steps to keep it from getting worse. Avoid noisy places whenever possible. Use earplugs, protective ear muffs, or noise-canceling headphones when around loud noises. Keep the volume down when listening through earbuds or headphones.

Tracey Reynolds, Vice President of Marketing, Sivantos, Inc., said: “Hearing loss is becoming increasingly prevalent. In fact, many people suffer from a hearing impairment and don’t yet realize it. We applaud the World Health Organization in their efforts to draw attention to this growing problem. As a leading hearing aid manufacturer, our focus and dedication are on developing innovative solutions across a wide range of hearing needs, and increasing the quality of life for countless people with hearing loss.”

Sivantos launched its new, state-of-the-art Signia Styletto Connect hearing aid on Friday, March 1.
