The founders of biotech company Omega3 Innovations believe that their newly redesigned chocolate truffle could replace regular fish oil capsules - while satisfying consumers' cravings for health and treats.
Last year, when they created the Omega Passion – a pure, non-alkalized dark chocolate truffle that combines high doses of fresh marine omega-3 fish oil and beta-glucan oat fibers – customers couldn’t believe something that tasted so decadent could also be good for them, according to Omega3 Innovations’ co-founder Dr. Bo Martinsen.
“We consistently heard from our customers that they loved the Omega Passion, but they wanted to eat it in smaller portions; like one or two bites after lunch and another two after dinner,” he said. “So, we’ve redesigned the Passion into bite-sized pieces to answer that consumer need.”
Each chocolate contains 300mg of EPA/DHA, or as much fish oil as one regular capsule – without the fishy taste, Martinsen said. The original Passion chocolates, which contained an effective daily dose of omega-3, were four times the current size, he added.
Omega Passion chocolates, which now are available in environmentally friendly, BPA-free tin boxes containing 20 pieces, are enrobed with 62 percent non-alkalized dark chocolate. They also are gluten-free, diabetic-friendly and contain no trans fats.
At 49 calories apiece, Omega Passion features a powerful combination of not just omega-3 fish oil, but also soluble oat fiber and antioxidants from the non-alkalized dark chocolate, said Dr. Anne-Marie Chalmers, co-founder of Omega3 Innovations.
The co-founders believe that the synergy of healthy ingredients in the Omega Passion make it more effective than regular fish oil capsules, while serving as an energizing treat and appetite suppressant.
“This is the perfect alternative to taking omega-3 fish oil capsules,” said Chalmers. “You’re getting a daily dose of omega-3 fish oil and a luscious truffle all rolled into one.”
