According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, lead-based paint is a leading cause of lead exposure for children and adults. Currently banned in the U.S., lead-based paints were commonly used in homes prior to 1978. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), homes built prior to 1978 are much more likely to contain lead-based paints, and over half of the homes built between 1940 and 1960 contain lead-based paint.
