Capt. Carvalho said he first used Jellyfish Squish on a hysterical young child who had been the victim of a particularly vicious sting. After trying other methods unsuccessfully, he applied Jellyfish Squish and was stunned as the child stopped crying and began asking to go back in the water.

"Immediately, you could tell there was total relief and I only used a small amount of (Jellyfish Squish) because it was a little kid," Capt. Carvalho said. "Then I used the product on two adults, and they both said it felt much better within moments and walked away from the truck to go back on the beach."

Oceanic conditions are contributing to the proliferation of jellyfish worldwide, and growing coastal populations and heavier tourist traffic to the beaches means greater exposure and an increased frequency of jellyfish stings. Research released in 2007 documented more than 200,000 stings annually on Florida's beaches and there are almost certainly thousands more stings that are not reported by the victims.

J.C. Grayson from Savannah, Ga., created and patented the original formula for Jellyfish Squish in 2007 and perfected the final product with the help of accomplished marine biologists Peter G. Verity, Ph.D., and Richard F. Lee, Ph.D., from the Skidaway Island Institute of Oceanography. Jellyfish Squish is the only commercially available product clinically proven to immediately and completely eliminate the pain caused by a jellyfish sting.

Grayson's company, Coastal Solutions, Inc., began distributing Jellyfish Squish in May, and the product is available in most coastal areas in Florida and the southeastern U.S. There are plans to pursue international distribution to Australia and Europe later this year
