Ocean Park – Delaware's First Privately Owned Platinum LEED Certified Office Park
Date:6/28/2010

On March 16, 2010 Sussex County Council approved the state’s first, privately owned platinum LEED certified office park to be located in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Ocean Park will become the first project of this classification in Sussex County and is in keeping with the Counties commitment to the environment including the recent announcement that the city of Lewes will be hosting the yearly Sustainable Delaware conference. Planned as a 45,000 square foot monument to Mother Nature, the Class A office buildings, ideal for medical and service professionals are being developed by the Bariglio Corporation of Kennett Square, PA and designed by Becker Morgan Group based in Dover, Delaware. LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

(PRWEB) June 28, 2010 -- Currently in the final stages of design, Ocean Park (Rehoboth Beach, DE) is considering an array of unique features to achieve their Platinum Certification, which will yield a minimum of a 33% reduction in energy demands and generate 33% less waste water compared to typical office buildings.

Ocean Park will become the first project of this classification in Sussex County and is in keeping with the Counties commitment to the environment including the recent announcement that the city of Lewes will be hosting the yearly Sustainable Delaware conference.

Planned as a 45,000 square foot monument to Mother Nature, the Class A office buildings, to be located just off Route 1 at the intersection of Cedar Grove Road and Plantation Road in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, is ideal for medical and service professionals. The office buildings are being developed by the Bariglio Corporation of Kennett Square, PA and designed by Becker Morgan Group based in Dover, Delaware.

Since the Sussex County Council’s March approval of the state’s first privately owned platinum LEED certified office park, the development has met with a tremendous amount of interest from local and regional medical practices and professional service companies attracted to such an environmentally ambitious opportunity.

Michael Riemann, Senior Associate with Becker Morgan Group, Inc states; “We’re considering a wide variety of creative concepts for this very special project from rainwater infiltration and collection systems, gray water recycling systems, and pervious pavements to more traditional solutions like green roofs geothermal energy systems and solar hot water systems.” Riemann continues, “The LEED certification process is a performance-based system which focuses on results rather than prescriptive solutions. This encourages creativity allowing us to really think outside the box and design an edifice that sets new standards in green building.”

Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.

The LEED rating systems are based on an accumulation of rating points awarded for meeting or exceeding a variety of design, building and maintenance requirements for sustainability, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources and indoor environmental quality. There are a total of 110 possible points awarded; Platinum Certification requires a minimum of 80-points. The Platinum rating is the highest level of LEED certification.
