A focus on the patient experience has paid off at the Oakwood Southshore Medical Center.
The Ambulatory Surgery and Surgery Center at the Trenton hospital were honored with the Guardian of Excellence Award from Press Ganey; the prestigious award honors hospitals and health care organizations that have achieved the 95th percentile in patient satisfaction, employee engagement and clinical quality performance.
“We are very proud of and humbled by this recognition,” said Edith Hughes, division president of Oakwood Southshore Medical Center. “This is validation of the hard work our team puts in every day to provide the highest quality care to our patients, and a reflection of the compassion we feel about the people who trust us with their care.”
The Guardian of Excellence award is given annually to the top performing organizations on the basis of extraordinary achievement. This award recognizes clients who have maintained consistently high levels of excellence in patient satisfaction, employee engagement, physician engagement or clinical quality performance.
Nearly a decade ago, Oakwood embarked on the Southshore Promise campaign, a commitment to the community that pledged a substantial investment to expand and update the hospital and improve and increase the services offered there in a way that fully embraced Oakwood’s core values of compassion, respect, excellence, diversity and ownership. Through service excellence tactics such as patient rounding, follow up phone calls and employee recognition, leadership at the hospital improved the patient experience.
“We really dedicated ourselves to perfecting the patient experience,” said Ronnie Walker, director of surgical services at OSMC. “Everybody had a role in this. It’s become part of our daily culture.”
