Oak Street Health Partners With Lyft in Indianapolis to Improve Access to Healthcare
Date:3/25/2019

Oak Street Health, a network of centers that provide innovative primary care services to Medicare recipients, has partnered with Lyft to improve access to healthcare in Indianapolis. This partnership combines Lyft’s mission to improve people’s lives with the world’s best transportation with Oak Street Health’s focus on increasing access to care by offering patients who qualify rides to and from appointments.

With four centers in Indianapolis, Oak Street Health addresses many of the critical gaps in healthcare by offering services that go beyond a traditional primary care provider. Oak Street Health already offers complimentary transportation to and from appointments with its fleet of green vans, which are used by more than half of Oak Street Health’s patients in Indianapolis. When vans are in high demand or patients require added attention and time, Oak Street Health’s Indianapolis center employees can schedule a ride through this partnership with Lyft.

“Partnering with Lyft ensures that accessibility will never be a barrier for Medicare beneficiaries in the Indianapolis community seeking quality primary care,” said Brian Clem, President of Oak Street Health Indiana and Ohio. “Lyft shares our commitment to improving the lives of others, and we’re excited to keep seeing a positive impact with the program.”

Since beginning a pilot program in early September, Lyft has helped many Oak Street Health patients get to and from their appointments, with more than 100 patients using the service in January alone. Patients were enthusiastic about the pilot program, reporting that simple and easy transportation eased any concerns about being able to get to their scheduled appointment on time and set the tone for a great primary care experience.

“At Lyft, we're focused on improving people's lives with the world's best transportation, as well as reducing the healthcare transportation gap,” said Cebronica Luft, Market Manager of Lyft Indianapolis. “To help further this commitment, we're thrilled to partner with Oak Street Health, making it easier for the seniors of Indianapolis to receive the quality healthcare they deserve without transportation as a barrier.”

Lyft is available for patients at all four Oak Street Health centers in Indianapolis:

  • Glendale - 2240 East 53rd St, Suite B-1
  • Irvington - 6401 E Washington St
  • Speedway - 5926 Crawfordsville Rd, Unit B
  • University Heights - 4200 S East St

About Oak Street Health
Oak Street Health is a fast-growing and innovative network of primary care centers for adults on Medicare designed to make healthcare more personal, equitable and accountable for all. Oak Street Health centers offer much more than a standard visit with a doctor. From providing transportation to and from appointments, insurance education, and supplemental services such as podiatry, behavioral health, and in-center pharmacies, the organization is closing critical gaps in the traditional healthcare experience. To encourage social wellness, each center hosts hundreds of social, fitness, and learning activities throughout the year. These services, coupled with Oak Street Health’s focus on quality of care instead of volume of services, has led to a 44 percent reduction in patient hospital admissions and a 46 percent reduction in patient emergency room visits. Today, the organization serves more than 200 communities across the United States with one mission at its core - to rebuild healthcare as it should be.
