Norwood, MA (PRWEB) March 30, 2010 -- OLyn Contractors, Inc. dba OLyn Roof Cleaning has officially began operations in the Boston and Greater Boston to 495 belt area. President and owner, Michael Olen, builds off of over 36 years of roofing expertise earned with OLyn Roofing Contractors, the company he founded in 1973.

Roof cleaning is an essential part of home maintenance in the Southeastern United States, where humid conditions and year-round warmth make black roof algae (Gloeocapsa Magma) an extremely common problem. The Northeastern US is beginning to see a proliferation of the dark black streaks that characterize roof algae, sometimes completely covering roofs that are only a year or two old. The historically heavy rains of 2009 only added to the problem, and experts predict exponential growth in the number of roofs experiencing this condition in 2010.

Many people think that their roof needs to be replaced because it is completely covered in moss, lichen, or black algae and just looks awful, says Michael Olen. Not necessarily so, he continues. Quite often, a roof can be cleaned for a fraction of the cost of replacement and end up looking almost as good as the day it was installed.

It is amazing to witness how fast a brand new roof can become completely covered in black algae, making it appear dirty and decrepit. Imagine spending several thousand dollars on a new roof, only to have it end up looking ten times its age within a year or two!
