Nutrisystem Announces Latest Weight Loss Success Story: Military Mom Regains Fit Form; Plus, Five Tips for Workplace Wellness

Fort Washington, PA (PRWEB) January 10, 2013

Nutrisystem reveals the latest real-life weight loss success story. Tracy Shaffer, a mother of two, did what she could to shed the extra pounds, trying everything – from various weight loss programs to pills – but nothing worked. While she had struggled with her weight as a teen, Shaffer now found herself in a completely new battle to regain her once military fit form. Then, one night while watching television, she saw an ad for Nutrisystem and made the decision to start the program.

Shaffer was drawn to the convenience of having healthy meals already planned for her, and it didn’t take long for her to start seeing positive results. At age 42, Shaffer began the program at 143 pounds and was able to lose 27 pounds* to reach a goal weight of 116. “I liked the ease and affordability of the Nutrisystem® program and fell in love with the great taste of the meals,” says Shaffer.

Nutrisystem, which is based on 40 years of nutrition research and the science of the low glycemic index, offers a variety of great tasting, satisfying, good carbohydrate meals (over 150 menu options) that are designed to be heart healthy.

Tracy Shaffer’s weight troubles as an adult began when she found herself in a civilian job, working for hours on end behind a desk, but she is not alone. For millions of Americans, the workplace can be a haven for weight gain. A recent survey found two-in-five workers (40 percent) said they have gained weight at their current job. Twenty-six percent of workers gained over 10 pounds, and 14 percent gained over 20 pounds. In addition to eating a healthy, well-balanced diet, such as the meals provided by the Nutrisystem® plan, there are simple changes employees can make in the workplace to eat right, stay active and get fit.

Nutrisystem Reveals Five Tips for Workplace Wellness:

Take a walk. Sitting in front of a computer all day isn’t likely to get your heart rate up. During lunch, go for a brisk walk. Nothing fancy – 10 minutes is enough. And instead of riding the elevator up to your office, taking the stairs instead will help you burn some extra calories.

Pack your lunch. That way, you’ll have complete control over your calorie intake, portion size and you can plan healthy options for your lunch the night before. And bonus – you might even save a few bucks! It’s also a good idea to pack a few healthy snacks to help keep you away from the office vending machine.

Drink responsibly. Steer clear of sodas and sugary drinks. They're very tempting, and may help you stay charged up while working, but they are most often filled with empty calories in the form of sugar. If you still need the caffeine, consider coffee or tea in moderation, but watch those sugar packets!

Exercise in the workplace. There are plenty of sites online that offer ideas for exercising in the workplace. You might even consider a small set of weights. There are also free programs for computers that alert you when it is time to stretch or take a break, and offer you exercise options.

Find a workplace workout buddy. Find a coworker who’s also interested in working out and eating healthy. Having someone to help motivate you and keep you in check makes sticking to a diet and fitness plan even easier. And if you plan to hit the gym after work, always keep your workout clothes in the car. Who knows? You might even find time for a quick midday jog around your office park!

Nutrisystem® programs appeal to a wide-range of people interested in losing weight for a variety of reasons -- people like Dr. Michael Haney, a physician who understood the need to lose weight to become a better role model for his family and patients; Nick Gaudio, a 30-year old whose weight gain left him feeling depressed; Tara Primis, a mother of two whose weight had grown to 276 pounds and was looking for a vegetarian program to guide her through weight loss; Mara Hall and Coralee Grebe who both chose Nutrisystem D to help lose weight to better manage their diabetes and prediabetes conditions respectively.
