HARRISBURG, Pa., June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Christine Carson Filipovich, a graduate of Venture Training, Inc., and the founder and president of Professional Nursing Resources, Inc., was honored last month with the 2008 Award for Excellence from the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
The award is given to an alumna or alumnus "who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and achievement in nursing and has made significant contributions in nursing or related areas of health care."
Filipovich received her bachelor's degree in nursing in 1973 and master's degree in nursing in 1977, both from the Bolton School, and went on to found Harrisburg-based Professional Nursing Resources, Inc., in 1999, after acquiring business and entrepreneurial skills from Venture Training.
"Venture Training helped me learn the core business skills I needed to start and operate my own firm," Filipovich said. "I had the knowledge of nursing and health care. Venture Training equipped me with the sound business practices and procedures that I am still using today in my firm."
Venture Training in Harrisburg operates the publicly funded Self-Employment Assistance Program in 23 Pennsylvania counties on behalf of the state Department of Labor & Industry. Since its creation in 1998, Venture Training has guided more than 400 individuals through the various administrative aspects of business operation, including bookkeeping, taxes, business plan development, legal issues, and marketing.
Filipovich went through the training in 1998 after being laid off from a nursing job. Today her firm provides consulting and management services to clients such as the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, the American Academy of Nursing, the International Association for Human Caring, and the National Perinatal Association.
She said she was grateful for the boost Venture Training gave her at a
critical time. S
