Nurse.com named NAHCR IMAGE Media Award winner for news coverage of Superstorm Sandy
Date:7/22/2013

Hoffman Estates, ILL. (PRWEB) July 22, 2013

Nurse Editor/Nurse Executive Janice Petrella Lynch, RN, MSN, received the 2013 NAHCR IMAGE Media Award for her coverage of the Nurse.com cover story “Home, Shook Home.” The article, published in the Nov. 19, 2012, edition of the New York/New Jersey magazine, profiled home care nurses in the NY/NJ regions and their extraordinary efforts in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

The announcement was made Thursday at the annual conference of the National Association for Health Care Recruitment in Minneapolis. The award recognizes individuals of the media who most positively portray to the general public contributions made by health care professionals. New York/New Jersey Regional Editor Barry Bottino accepted the award on behalf of Nurse.com and Lynch.

"Despite their own personal losses, treacherous roads and extensive power outages, these amazing nurses traveled by foot, bicycle, car or even public transportation to take care of their patients, some even going to nearby shelters to find them,” Lynch said. “The nurses I spoke with were impressed with their patients’ courage and perseverance; and while I listened to their stories, I was in awe of their heroic and relentless efforts under extremely harsh conditions.”

“This award stands for what Nurse.com does every day — share the positive contributions made by healthcare professionals,” said Heather Cygan, vice president of news. “I applaud the staff who put the nurses’ stories together into this compelling article and the nurses who went the extra mile to ensure their patients were cared for and safe.”
