Novant Health Vein Specialists Releases Article Which Reveals Top Tips to Relieve Leg Pain and Swelling
Date:6/21/2013

Winston-Salem, NC (PRWEB) June 21, 2013

Novant Health Vein Specialists is advising patients on how to relieve leg pain and swelling, in part through a new article published on their website that reveals top tips to reduce symptoms. The Winston-Salem, North Carolina clinic says that leg pain and swelling affect patients of all ages and genders, but is an especially common problem for older patients.

“Leg swelling is caused by a buildup of fluid in the ankles. This buildup may be caused by an inability in the venous system to transport blood from the lower extremities to the heart,” explains Dr. Ray Workman, a leading vein doctor at Novant Health Vein Specialists. Swelling can be exacerbated by a lack of exercise or by being overweight or obese.

The high rate at which this problem occurs has prompted the Winston-Salem based vein center to provide information to anyone interested in learning more. They will be providing tips on how to reduce pain and swelling through Facebook and Twitter.

Leg pain and swelling can be a sign of more serious problems. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should contact a doctor if they do not go away after pursuing home treatment.

Varicose Vein Treatment Options

Varicose veins and spider veins are extremely common in men and women. While spider veins are very small, reddish veins on the surface of the skin, varicose veins are much larger, bulging, tangled veins that may appear bluish in color. Men and women suffer from varicose veins, although women are much more likely to have them. Today, patients have access to a number of effective varicose vein treatment options. Advancements in technology and medicine have led to the development of effective, minimally invasive treatments that produce optimal results with few side effects or downtime. These treatments include sclerotherapy, radio frequency ablation, phlebectomy, and endovenous laser ablation.
