Northern Westchester Hospital Recognized as National Leader in Patient Safety
Date:6/4/2013

Westchester County, NY (PRWEB) June 04, 2013

Northern Westchester Hospital announced today that it has earned an “A” Hospital Safety Score (SM) from the Leapfrog Group. The nonprofit group assigns scores to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals as part of its Hospital Safety Score initiative. Scores are based on preventable medical errors, injuries, accidents, and infections and are designed to give the public information that they can use to protect themselves and their families. The “A” score places Northern Westchester Hospital among the safest New York hospitals, as well as the safest in the nation.

AARP The Magazine also reported in the April/ May 2013 issue that Northern Westchester Hospital is one of only 16 New York Hospitals on the list, and one of the 66 safest hospitals in America. “At Northern Westchester Hospital, our entire organization is focused on providing patients with the highest level of quality, patient centered care in the region. We are proud that over the last year, NWH was recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a one of the region’s best hospitals in three categories. In addition, NWH was recognized by the Joint Commission for being in the top 5% of hospitals nationally for providing high quality medical care. Being recognized as one of the safest hospitals in America further demonstrates our commitment to providing our patients with the finest care available in the region,” stated Joel Seligman, President and CEO of Northern Westchester Hospital.

“Being recognized among the highest-quality and safest hospitals in America is the result of the amazing focus and determination from our staff and physicians. Each one of us takes tremendous pride and ownership in delivering the highest level of care available. I am very proud of our staff and their commitment to our patients,” stated Marla Koroly, MD, FACP, Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at Northern Westchester Hospital.

The Hospital Safety Score was calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s eight-member Blue Ribbon Expert Panel. The Hospital Safety Score uses 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors. The panel includes: John Birkmeyer (University of Michigan), Ashish Jha (Harvard University), Arnold Millstein (Stanford University), Peter Pronovost (Johns Hopkins University), Patrick Romano (University of California, Davis), Sara Singer (Harvard University), Tim Vogus (Vanderbilt University), and Robert Wachter (University of California, San Francisco).
