Advanced Evaluation and Treatment for the Functional Rehabilitation of the Foot and Ankle

This PT continuing education course is presented over 2 days to provide intermediate to advanced levels of instruction to allow clinicians to gain practical and useful knowledge for evaluation and treatment for dysfunctions related to the foot and ankle. This course will begin with reviewing bony anatomy and joint function of the foot and ankle complex and using this information to delineate a structured evaluation and specific functional treatment techniques. Through a detailed course manual providing written descriptions, illustrations and selected post/preoperative protocols, emphasis will be placed on understanding biomechanical alignment as well as treatments for isolated weakness and range of motion deficits occurring in various foot and ankle diagnoses. The instruction manual will also provide useful evaluation forms as well as examples of suggested treatments. Clinicians will learn static and functional evaluation and screening techniques to guide differential diagnosis and promote thorough treatment plans for many foot and ankle pathologies including plantar fasciitis, posterior tibial tendon dysfunction, as well as forefoot disorders such as metatarsalgia. The evidenced-based physical therapy continuing education approach provides an unusual approach to foot and ankle education as it integrates assessments across several areas of specialization including physical therapy and Pedorthics that include immediately useful joint mobilization, flexibility and strengthening activities, as well as indications for foot orthotic and specific shoe recommendations.

This continuing education course for PTA, PT and OT also includes a professionally created DVD. An additional online continuing education course for PT can be purchased in addition to course tuition. This online and DVD course complements the material in the live course.

This PT CEU course will be presented at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center located in Englewood NJ on October 26 - 27, 2013.

Gait Training—An Evidence Based Course Combining Manual Therapy, Exercise and Functional Activities

This intermediate level 2-day PT continuing education seminar provides an orthopedic perspective in the evaluation and treatment of the neurologically involved lower extremity with the use of evidence based practice. This course will provide studies that support common theories and treatments involved with the treatment of the lower extremity with a focus on function and gait. The concepts and principles demonstrated in this course enhance both the clinician's knowledge base and hands-on skills. Clinicians will learn to not only identify impairments in alignment, but prioritize which impairment is affecting function. They will analyze movement patterns specifically with gait, determine musculoskeletal dysfunctions (including muscle imbalances) and develop a working therapy diagnosis with appropriate therapeutic intervention. Course instruction is enhanced by extensive group interaction and hands-on practice of the evaluation procedures (with case studies). Treatment approaches are aimed at soft tissue mobilization, flexibility activities, strengthening exercises and proprioceptive activities that will improve gait and mobility with patients. Break out sessions will include video analysis of actual patients to allow the clinician to systematically diagnosis patient dysfunction and develop a progressive functional treatment plan. The techniques learned can be applied to a multitude of pathologies in both the neurologic and orthopedic realm (including, but not exclusive to: CVA, SCI, TBI, Parkinson’s Disease, MS, CP, deconditioning, hip pathologies, arthritis, etc). This course assists the clinician in becoming more efficient with making the correct therapy diagnosis, documenting, analyzing, communicating and progressing the patient to a more functional level.

This PT CEU course will be presented at Adventist Rehab Hospital of Maryland located in Rockville, Maryland on October 26-27, 2013

These courses will benefit physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, athletic trainers and rehab nurses.
