North American Seminars support hands on training for physical therapists, physical therapy assistants and occupational therapists as the primary method of continuing education. Without hands on skill, a therapist greatly reduces their ability to be an effective provider of valuable treatment to their patients. In an effort to increase retention and build on techniques and concept taught in North American Seminars continuing education courses, the team at healthclick has developed over 800 High Definition training films for the rehab population.
Five of North American Seminars online continuing education courses for PT and PTA have received approval for CA license renewal credit.
The California approved online continuing education course for PT are as follows:
Clinical Examination and Treatment of the Cervical and Upper Thoracic Spine - Managing patients with neck pain can be confusing and frustrating for novice and experienced clinicians alike. In this course, Dr. Durall uses treatment-based classification to streamline clinical decision making and care planning. Examination techniques and strategies are presented that are supported by research and/or clinical experience.
Intervention strategies covered include high velocity thrust manipulation, therapeutic exercise to improve dynamic stabilization, and directionally-specific exercise. Treatment strategies for patients with arm symptoms, cervicogenic headaches or high-levels of neck pain are also included.
Examination and Treatment of the SI Joint - This online physical therapy continuing education course provides detailed description of SI Joint physical examination testing, including how to rule out the lumbar spine and hip joint as potential pain generators. The DVD/Online Content and supplemental written material provide the clinician with great detail on how to perform examination of the SI joint/pelvic girdle, the tests to implement, what patients they should be performed on, what entails a positive (or negative test), and the diagnostic accuracy of such tests. Another great feature of this DVD and written material is the interventions shown and described. The clinician can clearly see how to perform manual therapy, stretching, and strengthening techniques as they apply to the SI joint/pelvic girdle pain patient. Detailed information regarding proper set-up, hand placement, technique, re-assessment, and EMG values (exercises) are given in order for the clinician to make informed decisions on which interventions are most clinically applicable in their various types of patients.
Examination and Treatment of the Hip Joint - This PT online CME course provides detailed description of hip physical examination testing, including how to rule out other the lumbar spine and SI joint/pelvic girdle as potential pain generators. The DVD/Online and supplemental written material provide the clinician with great detail on how to perform examination of the hip joint, the tests to implement, what patients they should be performed on, what entails a positive (or negative test), and the diagnostic accuracy of such tests. Spinal Cord Injury - This PT continuing education courses online with DVD supplement represents current approached to evaluating, treating a patient with spinal cord injury. Unique to this course are two actual spinal cord injury patients that demonstrate key mobility and transfer techniques. This not only provides the learner with real life examples of the techniques but conveys how a therapist can achieve success in improving the quality of life of SCI patient. Selina Morgan ATP, PT narrates and demonstrates the film and correlates the written information to provide the most detail for each technique. This video portion of the course was filmed in a manner which allows complete focus on the material without background distractions. Behind all the evidenced based information is an educator, Selina Morgan, who conveys her twenty years of experience and passion treating SCI patients.
Vestibular Rehabilitation - Evaluation and Treatment - Each year over 8 million physician and emergency room visits are attributed to complaints of dizziness and imbalance. Symptoms of vestibular disorders can vary greatly from one person to the next and the population range can vary as much as the symptoms. As our population ages many more people will be seeking medical assistance for dizziness and imbalance or injuries due to these complaints. Soldiers returning from combat with post blast or post concussion injuries often have underlying vestibular disorders. The ability for clinicians to perform screening tests for differential diagnosis is critical for the future health and well being of their patients. Only 8% of suspected BBPV patients will have a proper diagnosis prior coming to a therapist. This course will provide a foundation for understanding proper evaluation and treatment techniques for various vestibular conditions.
These course meet the continuing education requirements for physical therapists in the States of California, Illinois, New York, Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Indiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
