Nonin Medical, Inc. Is Recognized for Its Role in Promoting Interoperability
Date:3/31/2008

MINNEAPOLIS, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Nonin Medical, Inc., a leading innovator of physiological monitoring solutions, has long envisioned a streamlined environment of interoperability with other medical equipment. Nonin continues to actively invest and incorporate innovative technologies that facilitate information flow without the need of proprietary interfaces.

To realize its vision of interoperability, Nonin Medical has collaborated with some of the finest healthcare and technology companies in the world to improve the delivery of healthcare. As one of the Founding Members of the Continua Alliance, Nonin Medical and its wide array of Continua partners, are dedicated to develop cross-industry standards to reduce the cost of healthcare from acute care to the home.

A key outcome of this partnership was the announcement by Continua to adopt the Bluetooth(R) Medical Device Profile as one of the interoperable standards for certified products. Nonin Medical is a pioneer in incorporating Bluetooth connectivity in vital sign monitoring solutions. Nonin Medical released the world's first Bluetooth Wireless Oximeter in 2004 and will soon unveil its next generation of Bluetooth wireless vital sign monitoring -- forever changing how patients monitor their health in the home and throughout their daily activities.

"Bluetooth offers key benefits to deliver wireless healthcare data," says Jayant Parthasarathy, Ph.D., Technology Program Manager for Nonin Medical. He adds, "Bluetooth is a widely-accepted interoperable wireless technology that offers adequate bandwidth along with bi-directional, frequency hopping spread spectrum technology to minimize interference with other wireless technologies." Parthasarathy was elected Co-Chair of the Bluetooth Medical Device Profile Group and currently serves as the elected Chair of Continua's Core Device Group where he was recently recognized with a Key Contributor Award.
