Newly Launched Website, SunshineBloggers, Urges Consumers to Make Safer Choices Regarding Styrofoam
Date:8/25/2013

New York, NY (PRWEB) August 25, 2013

Inspired by the August 9th Patch.com article “Madison Biz Recycles Your Styrofoam,” SunshineBloggers (a new environmental site) urges buyers to utilize products made of safer materials.

The use of Styrofoam has decreased dramatically since the discovery of CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbons) and their impact on the environment. CFCs are proven to cause a weakening in the Ozone layer, as the sun’s rays have to work to break down the chlorine within the CFCs. CFCs have a lifespan of anywhere from 20-100 years, so the effects may be felt for years to come. With the invention of Styrofoam ice chests and other products made with CFC-free Styrofoam growing in popularity, companies are finding a new way to recycle and re-use the CFC laden counterpart.

In the aforementioned Patch.com article we learned that the Styrofoam products of yesteryear, such as ice chests, do not degrade cleanly, reusing the material is an environmentally friendly way to keep it out of the landfill. Companies are beginning to take the Styrofoam and re-shape it into packing peanuts and other items. Ice chests and molded packing are just a few of the ways Styrofoam is being reused.

The editor of SunshineBloggers commented on the issue and said, “Since CFC-free items are now considered a safe alternative, I believe it’s important that people invest in CFC-free items for their home and office. While Styrofoam ice chests may be cheap, a CFC-free alternative can be recycled and reused. This same principal can apply to items such as cups, to-go containers, and even CFC-free aerosol sprays. Another alternative is to forego any disposable product such as an ice chest and invest in a sturdier alternative. Making a choice to keep your health and the environment safer is super important. We all need to make the switch.”

SunshineBloggers believes that while we may see CFCs in our environment for decades to come, keeping this product out of landfills and finding new ways to recycle it is an important step in repairing the damage CFCs have done.

SunshineBloggers explains the emergence of Styrofoam recycling, along with the effects CFCs have on the environment, and earth-friendly alternatives available today and urges consumers to go greener for the environment and their own health.
