New York Women's Agenda Presents AUA Foundation Executive Director Sandra Vassos with Star Award

Through her leadership role at the AUA Foundation, Vassos promotes the highest standards of urological patient care

BALTIMORE, Dec. 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Urological Association (AUA) Foundation is pleased to announce that its Executive Director Sandra Vassos was presented with the Star Award this morning at The New York Women's Agenda 2009 Star Breakfast in New York City. The Star Award recognizes distinguished women leaders across a broad spectrum of professions. This year's theme is Pass It On! Celebrating Women, Generation to Generation.

Vassos joins the 2009 star honorees including Dawna Michelle Fields, Colgate; Gena Lovett, Alexandra Investment; Nell Merlino, Count Me In for Women's Economic Independence; and Margot Hartman Tenney, The First Stamford Corporation. Additionally, actress Jane Fonda was presented today with the Elinor Guggenheimer Lifetime Achievement Award.

"I am honored to receive the Star Award and proud of the progress that the AUA Foundation has made in urology," said Sandra Vassos, executive director of the AUA Foundation. "While many people are hesitant to talk about urology publicly, this is an important issue that matters to each and every one of us. Our foundation strives to reach these patients and provide them with the information they need."

Urologic conditions can be some of the most embarrassing and life-altering conditions a patient can face. Millions of Americans - regardless of age, gender or race - suffer each year, some in silence, many resolved to simply cope without seeking medical advice or treatment. Some patients accept common urologic conditions - urinary tract symptoms, incontinence, enlarged prostate - as a regular part of aging.
