New York State Athletic Trainers’ Association Launches New Website: Becoming a Prominent Public Resource and Celebrating National Athletic Training Month
Date:3/14/2013

Albany, NY (PRWEB) March 14, 2013

As the statewide affiliate organization of certified athletic trainers, NYSATA wants to be the go-to resource for credible & cutting-edge information in NYS on issues related to sports healthcare. Redesigning the website was essential to efficiently demonstrate and promote the authentic merit of athletic trainers (ATs), both as healthcare providers and as a beneficial resource. Ideally, school districts, including boards, administrators, teachers, and PTAs, those involved in sport-related activities, and other associated medical and healthcare providers will look to NYSATA for consultation and assistance with health and safety issues related to athletics.

"In addition to NYS athletic trainers, our website is a resource for parents, coaches, schools, and even communities,” states NYSATA’s website coordinator Jenny Petruzzo, MS, ATC. “The website needed to become more dynamic, user-friendly, and up-to-date. We are excited to share our constantly evolving, professional website with others and eager for it to help those we work with and serve."

The new NYSATA website provides a comprehensive compilation of Public Resources, including information about the profession of athletic training, AT education and credentialing, and concussion management. A substantial collection of Links and Handouts on sport-related injuries/illnesses and health and safety recommendations is also available. A current list of relevant press releases and news articles is provided to further illustrate how NYSATA and ATs are making an impact and contact information for NYSATA’s officers, committees, and NYS regional representatives is listed for convenience in contacting NYSATA for any type of questions or assistance.

“I feel the newly updated NYSATA website presents information in a way that is more accessible to the public,” states NYSATA President Deanna Errico, PT, DPT, ATC. “NYSATA wants to be a resource to those in NYS regarding healthcare issues, including those trying to accommodate the new legislation on concussion awareness and management. Those who have certified athletic trainers working in their schools are fortunate, but there are many more that do not. Those school officials should find the information on the NYSATA website particularly helpful and eventually we hope they will recognize the many advantages of employing an athletic trainer.” See how an AT can be of service to you, your children, or any physically active population – as ‘Every Body Needs an Athletic Trainer’ (NATM, 2013)!

In addition to launching the new website, NYSATA is also sponsoring a variety of other events throughout March in celebration of National Athletic Training Month. A Twitter Trivia contest (@GO_NYSATA, #NYNATM2013), a Facebook Photo contest, as well as an Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) Student Video contest are all running this month. Additionally, NYSATA has teamed up with Ray Ciancaglini, a former boxer who suffers from chronic post-concussive symptoms. In the years since his injury, he has become an advocate and public speaker who creates awareness about sport concussion and second impact syndrome through his firsthand experience to any interested audience. NYSATA is also involved in the NYS Athletic Administrators’ Association (NYSAAA) Annual Conference in Saratoga Springs this week. ATs will be presenting on concussion management strategies and hosting an exhibit booth to answer questions and disseminate information to attendees. Lastly, NYSATA and the Brain Injury Association of NYS (BIANYS) have partnered to jointly promote NATM and Brain Injury Awareness Month, both in March. For more information on these events, visit NYSATA’s NATM webpage at: http://www.gonysata2.org/national-athletic-training-month/

NYSATA, founded in 1976 and incorporated in 1989, stands to advance, encourage and improve the profession of athletic training (AT) by developing the common interests of its membership for the purpose of enhancing the quality of healthcare for the physically active in New York State. Comprised of over 1,200 certified and practicing athletic trainers, NYSATA is the state-wide affiliate of the regional Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association (EATA) and District Two of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA).
