New York Marathon Runners Refueling With Smart for Life Cookie Squares

The All-Natural Snack Aids in the Recovery of Athletes

NEW YORK, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- On November 2nd, more than 100,000 world-class runners will cross the finish line of the New York City Marathon. After the race, runners will have access to free samples of Smart for Life Cookie Squares to help them replenish. The snack contains the recommended mix of nutrients including carbohydrates, protein, sugar and salt, which, as part of a post-run routine, can significantly aid in recovery, prevent injury and optimize the workout.

Immediately after a long run or rigorous exercise it is recommended to gently stretch and rehydrate with a beverage that contains electrolytes. Eating a large meal immediately after exercising can cause nausea that can interfere with the rehydration process. Instead, it is recommended to eat a small snack containing carbohydrates, protein, sugar and salt. The sugar aids in stabilizing blood sugar while the other ingredients serve to accelerate muscle recovery. The same nutritional principles apply to optimize a workout and safely recuperate after a run.

Athletes will be able to find snacks appropriate for post-race consumption and recovery at the Hammerstien Ballroom during the New York Roadrunner's post-race party such as Smart for Life Cookie Squares.

Consuming Smart for Life Cookie Squares will provide the runners with the recommended amount of protein and carbohydrates needed to refuel. The cookies contain complex sugars from natural sources such as fruits and vegetables in addition to many essential vitamins such as vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium and iron.
