New York Law Journal Releases Top Medical Malpractice Case for 2012: NY Supreme Court Awards $8.6 Million to Plaintiff after Doctor's Misdiagnosis Led to Personal Injury

s, according to court documents, eventually advanced to an infection to her pituitary gland that Ms. Mandel claimed to have caused diabetes insipidus, impairing the functionality of her kidneys. This necessitated a lifelong administration of a certain hormone to control the condition. In addition, the plaintiff subsequently experienced a seizure, falling and sustaining further injuries as well as undergoing medication to prevent further seizures from occurring. According to the lawsuit, aside from the emotional trauma that all the succeeding ailments have brought upon the plaintiff, Ms. Mandel complained of intense pain due to her herniated disc which may require surgery.

The New York Supreme Court concluded this case on May 31st 2012 in favor of the plaintiff and the jury found the defendant negligent and noncompliant with accepted medical care standards. Total damages awarded to Ms. Mandel amounted to $8.6 million, in consideration of past and future medical costs, as well as the pain and suffering that she has incurred as a result of the negligence and medical malpractice of her physician.
