New Year's Resolution Garden Growing Sales for Burpee

WARMINSTER, Pa., Dec. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- W. Atlee Burpee & Co., the nation's leading home gardening company, reports brisk sales for its recently launched, New Year's Resolution Garden, an oversized packet of seeds containing different varieties for home gardeners who want to make New Year's resolutions and keep them.

The giant seedpack contains varieties of vegetables and flowers to help lose weight, exercise more, save money, reduce stress, help the environment, be healthy and spend more time with the family. All are commonly declared New Year's Resolutions.

The project is the brainchild of Burpee chairman, George Ball, who claims gardening is the answer for compliance with just about any New Year's Day resolution.

By far the most popular variety is the "Lose Weight" garden, claims Ball, and it is based on the volumetrics system developed by Dr. Barbara Rolls. The concept, he explains, is to select vegetables high in water content and eat as much as you want. "The net effect is that you feel full even though you have not consumed a lot of calories."
