New Web Site Connects Patients with Experienced Doctors
Date:1/23/2009

BOCA RATON, Fla., Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- A group of American board-certified medical doctors has launched a Web site designed to give anyone with a medical question the chance to receive medical advice and medical information from a specialized doctor.

AskTheMedicalSpecialist.com (http://www.AskTheMedicalSpecialist.com) currently features doctors specializing in:

    -- Pediatrics
    -- Critical care medicine
    -- Gastroenterology
    -- Internal medicine
    -- Pulmonary medicine
    -- Sleep medicine
    -- Cardiology

Additional doctors will join in the near future.

While many medical web sites feature general health information, few sites have the capability to offer patients personalized, confidential and VIP advice from an expert medical doctor.

Lance Cohen, MD created AskTheMedicalSpecialist.com to give online searchers the chance to have their medical questions answered by knowledgeable medical professionals, regardless of location.

"Doctors and their families receive better medical care than the general population," says Dr. Cohen.

"Knowing what questions to ask, double checking the treatments that are recommended to you, knowing your choices when you are told you need a procedure -- ultimately empowers you as a patient and as a consumer."

Ask the Medical Specialist keeps all customer information strictly confidential. However, some customers choose to anonymously release their question and answer for publication to aid other patients facing similar problems.

One patient named SF from California recently asked Dr. Cohen if a central line catheter was necessary for his ailing father. Dr. Cohen explains the benefits and risks of the procedure, along with a recommended course of action in the "Recent Posts" section of the Web site.

To ask a medical question, a patient registers, chooses a specialist, and submits a question directly to that doctor.

The doctor reviews the question and returns the query within 48 hours. The patient then has the opportunity to ask one follow-up question.

Dr. Cohen specializes in critical care medicine, internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and sleep medicine. Ask the Medical Specialist currently has hand-picked three other doctors:

-- Peter Antevy, MD (pediatric ER, pediatric medicine)
    -- Dean Palmer, MD (gastroenterology)
-- Edward Simon, MD (cardiology, invasive cardiology)

All doctors at Ask the Medical Specialist are American board-certified and possess extensive experience working in the field in which they specialize.
