New Walking Program Website Inspires Americans to Step Out and Step Up to Better Health
Date:9/14/2009

MIDLAND, Mich., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- In conjunction with National Walking Month, Health Enhancement Systems has launched a new Walktober website (www.Walktober.com) to dramatically boost walking for health and fitness during October. The walking program (http://my.walktober.com/welcome/individuals) has been available since 2003 through employer wellness programs, helping hundreds of organizations and thousands of walkers step up to better health.

This year anyone can sign up and take advantage of this fun campaign with a fall theme. "We've had such tremendous interest from individuals and families that we decided to put a public site online," explains Dean Witherspoon, founder and CEO of Health Enhancement Systems. "October is an ideal time to step outside, enjoy the cool weather and spectacular fall colors, and build a healthy walking habit."

The new site has 100+ fabulous fall photos from all over North America, motivating daily health tips, more than 200 great-tasting healthy recipes (including specially selected autumn favorites), a fun, interactive logging page, and MapWalk (an easy-to-use walking route tool built with Google Maps technology).

"The most exciting Walktober element this year is a team feature where groups of 4 or more friends and family members can compete against others," notes Witherspoon. "We designed the competition to reinforce the walking (www.Walktober.com) habit, beyond October -- consistent walkers earn points faster than those who hike only on weekends. We want people to experience all the health and psychological benefits that come with a regular, ongoing fitness (www.Walktober.com) routine."

Participants can register at www.Walktober.com (www.Walktober.com) now through the first week in October and track their progress for the 31 days. The team competition also runs from October 1 through 31. Registered users can purchase official merchandise in the Walktober store.

Health Enhancement Systems is a health promotion company serving organizations in North America and throughout the world. In addition to Walktober, they have created more than 20 wellness campaigns including Great American Fitness Adventure, 10K-A-Day, Get Fit on Route 66, Feel Like a Million, Spring Into Motion, and NutriSum: Healthy Weight for Life.
