New Survey Reveals That Couples Want Vacation Time Together After the Stressful Holiday Season
Date:11/20/2007

STAMFORD, Conn., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Many Americans anticipate that the holiday season will be a time to spend with friends and family; however, according to a recent survey conducted by Ipsos and Philips Norelco, for couples, managing a full holiday schedule can take its toll. In fact, 61 percent of respondents said they find the holidays to be stressful(1), and 83 percent said they would like more alone time with their partner or friends after the holidays(2).

As the holiday shopping season gets underway, Philips Norelco is offering shoppers great gift ideas and the opportunity to "Get Closer" with a unique holiday promotion that gives couples a free night's stay at an upscale inn.

From now until January 31, 2008, with every purchase of a Philips Norelco razor, consumers will receive a free night's stay at an upscale inn with the purchase of one night. The gift is redeemable at more than 1,500 luxurious inns and bed & breakfasts throughout the U.S. and Canada through American Historic Inns Incorporated.

"Sometimes the stress of giving the perfect gift can take the fun out of the holiday season," said Arjen Linders, vice president, marketing, Philips Norelco. "With the 'Get Closer' promotion, Philips Norelco is offering the perfect package: a gift he'll actually use and a chance to get away and recharge after the holidays."

Dr. Michelle R. Callahan, a noted relationship expert, coach and developmental psychologist, agrees that the holidays can cause stress between couples and that a gift that consumers and their partners will use and enjoy is a great way to overcome holiday shopping angst.

"Nearly 95 percent of people want to give a gift their partner actually will use(3) and a Phillips Norelco shaver will keep him looking his best well into the New Year," said Dr. Michelle.

About the Survey

Methodology

These results are based on 1,013 telephone interviews with adults 18 years of age and older from across the United States. Interviews were conducted between October 16 and October 18, 2007. The final data are statistically weighted to reflect the regional population distribution of the US. Surveys were completed in English and in Spanish.

With a sample of 1,000, one can say with 95 percent certainty that the overall results are within 3.1 percentage points of what they would have been had the entire population of the United States had been surveyed. The margin of error will be larger for sub-groupings of the survey population.
