New Study Shows the Growing Number of Independent Voters Have a Greater Propensity for Sleeping Well vs. Democrats or Republicans
Date:7/25/2014

Brighton, MI (PRWEB) July 25, 2014

In an election year that is plagued by a climate of political uncertainty, it’s no surprise that Americans may not be sleeping well, and political affiliation could have something to do with it, according to a new poll conducted by US-Mattress. The US Mattress Survey, which asked more than 200 consumers from across the country, “Which Political Party Do You Side With,” and “How Well Do You Sleep at Night?” found that those registered as Independents tout a higher rate of good sleep, with 57 percent saying they usually sleep well. Only half (49 percent) of both Republicans and Democrats say they sleep well at night. Surprisingly, people who have no affiliation with a particular political party don’t sleep well at all, with only 27% of respondents saying they are accustomed to regularly getting a good night’s sleep.

These findings are particularly interesting, given a new report from “third way” finds that Independents are on the rise in the crucial 2014 states. The study finds since the 2012 presidential election, Independent registration has outpaced Democratic and Republican enrollment in 11 of 12 states with competitive statewide elections this November. Going back in time, Independent voter registration is up dramatically since 2008, increasing by 17.2% in these twelve red and purple states. These changes reflect continuing dissatisfaction with the two parties, as well as the increasing influence of Millennial voters, who eschew party labels even more than their elders.

“Our new study indicates that having ties to the Independent party rather than siding with Republicans or Democrats may positively impact the way people sleep,” said US-Mattress.com chief researcher Dongna Wang. “Considering 2014 is an election year, people who have yet to choose a political party preference may want to take a closer look at which way to align if they’re craving better sleep.”
