New Medical Director Readies To Take Reins at Monarch Landing
Date:7/29/2015

It is unique for a health center to dedicate a full-time medical director exclusively for its residents. “This is a tremendous model of care. One that is very hands on and resident oriented, and one to which Dr. Rennecker is ideally suited,” said Renee Garvin, executive director of Monarch Landing. “She’s bringing great passion and energy, as well as a strong commitment to helping seniors live longer, healthier and happier lives."

Rennecker is eager to start working solely with the senior population at her new post. “I’m looking forward to a clinic-based practice at Monarch Landing,” Rennecker said. “I’m used to subacute patients and discharge procedures, so I’m ready to hit the ground running.”

While currently working as a hospitalist at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio, she is also ready to reenter the Chicago area – Naperville specifically.

“I lived in downtown Chicago from 1998-2002 and had worked at a private practice in Lisle with admitting privileges at Edward,” she said. “I enjoyed the Naperville area and the staff and administration at Edward Hospital were wonderful.” Additionally, she said she wanted to come back to the Naperville area because they have an excellent school system and believes it's a great place to raise a family.

Once she spoke with the Edward Hospital physician recruiter, Jackie Smith, and met with Garvin and Jennifer Roach, administrator at The Springs, she realized the medical director position was a perfect opportunity for her, Rennecker said.

“There has been so much change in medicine as of late and Edward Hospital, Monarch Landing, and The Springs seem to be very dedicated to improving quality of care while navigating these changes in the medical field,” she said. “In addition, when I interviewed there I had the opportunity to meet some of the residents at Monarch Landing and they were so welcoming and nice. It just felt good to be back in Naperville.”

Rennecker, 45, earned her medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University in 1994, and is board certified in internal medicine. She has been a practicing hospitalist with Aultman Hospital since 2009. Prior to that she was in private practice from 1998-2009. She said her career as a hospitalist will be beneficial to the residents she will be serving at The Springs.

“I have done a variety of ranges of care from the ortho to surgical floors,” she said. “Internal medicine is typically more geriatric or a senior-based practice, so I have experience in treating chronic medical issues.”

That’s good news for the residents of the Naperville senior living community. Rennecker will be dividing her time between seeing independent living residents at Monarch Landing, and residents of The Springs which provides assisted living memory support, rehabilitation, and long-term skilled care.

For residents of The Springs who require a higher level of care, Rennecker’s presence will mean that routine visits to physicians outside the community aren’t necessary, though a patient’s care is always the top priority, she said.
“If it becomes necessary to seek treatment for a patient outside the community, I will facilitate on the patient’s behalf to ensure they receive the best possible care,” she said.

As a physician who has also been a patient – she is a breast cancer survivor, receiving a bilateral mastectomy – Rennecker understands both sides of the patient-doctor relationship.

“I’m very approachable and willing to help,” she said.

Rennecker has two children, and will be starting her new position Aug. 3.
