According to court documents, on May 24, the surviving relatives of a woman filed a lawsuit in Louisiana Eastern District Court (case no. 2:2013cv03938) alleging that the decedent suffered an ischemic stroke from Pradaxa. Pradaxa, manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, is mainly used as a blood thinner for patients who are at risk for stroke or atrial fibrillation. In the lawsuit, the plaintiffs claim that the decedent passed away as a result of taking Pradaxa.
Court documents indicate that the first bellwether trial in the Pradaxa Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) has been scheduled for August 2014. More than 650 lawsuits are now part of the Pradaxa MDL (No. 2385, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Illinois).
