New Jersey Increases Substance Abuse Insurance For Public Workers
Date:10/2/2013

Miami, Florida (PRWEB) October 02, 2013

In an article by The Star Ledger (9/23), titled N.J. boosts public workers' insurance coverage for alcoholism, drug addiction, that the State of New Jersey announced that over 200,000 public workers will receive improved insurance that will cover alcoholism and drug addiction beginning next year, Governor Chris Christie announced.

A committee comprised of state and union officials have deemed the new enhanced insurance as part of "mental health parity.” The new insurance will cover addiction in the same manner as mental illnesses such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.

Governor Christie's office announced that more than 217,000 current and retired workers enrolled in the State Health Benefits Program will be affected by the new coverage. The insurance coverage applies to state, county and local government employees and those working at New Jersey's public colleges and universities.

Drug and alcohol abuse can escalate to a life threatening problem. Only a certified, 24/7 medically supervised detox center such as Harbor Village is qualified to assist clients who are suffering from drug-related issues.
