New Jersey Accident Lawyers at Console & Hollawell Commend Montgomery County’s ‘Operation Safe Holiday,’ Urge All to Participate

Marlton, NJ (PRWEB) December 24, 2012

There is no excuse for the nearly 12,000 drunk-driving accidents that occurred across Pennsylvania last year.* A recent report from Philly Burbs* explained that in order to combat the high occurrence of these kinds of accidents, officials across Montgomery County are standing together with ‘Operation Safe Holiday.’ The program, much like the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, aims to first raise awareness about the issue, which they feel will lead to prevention of these accidents. Richard P. Console, Jr., a Philadelphia accident lawyer with the firm Console & Hollawell, commended the officials who aim to prevent these senseless tragedies and joins them in asking the public to make smart decisions over this holiday season and throughout the year.

“It is difficult to express the sorrow almost 500 families will be feeling as they gather to celebrate the holidays missing a guest because they were killed in a drunk-driving crash,” Console said. “Together we can stop these terrible events from ever occurring by making the decision to always behave responsibly when consuming alcohol.”

In addition to increasing public awareness about the seriousness of the drunk-driving epidemic in Pennsylvania, Operation Safe Holiday will also focus on catching these negligent drivers and getting them off the roadway, hopefully before they can hurt themselves or others. The Philly Burbs article explained that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is responsible for seeing that the roads are physically safe. On the same note, police officers are there to stop criminal behavior, but it is the drivers who need to take more responsibility for their actions as actions by motorists were cited as the cause for more than 85 percent of all accidents in the state.*

“When individuals choose to consume alcohol there is an expectation that they are old enough and responsible enough to handle this privilege,” Console stated. “There is absolutely no valid reason for anyone to get behind the wheel of a car after they have been drinking—there are so many alternative ways of transportation.”

Console, and the rest of the team at Console & Hollawell, P.C., offered the following tips that all those who will be consuming alcohol should follow this holiday season and all year round.

  • Always plan ahead. Figure out how you will be safely getting home after partaking in festivities be it a designated driver, taxi, sober ride service, or public transportation.
  • Know your limits. Driving when you are feeling ‘buzzed’ is just as dangerous as driving when you are over the legal limit. There is no shame in deciding you need another way of getting home because you drank too much.
  • Walk cautiously. As pointed out in the Philly Burbs report,* not all drunk-driving accidents involve just motor vehicles. If you are walking home and are under the influence you can still be putting your life at risk if you accidentally step into traffic. Always find a safe ride home or stay the night where you were drinking until you are able to get home without issue.

The attorneys at Console & Hollawell have been protecting the rights of accident victims, including those who were hit by an intoxicated driver, since 1994. They are dedicated to doing their part to eliminate senseless accidents such as those involving drunk-drivers.
