New InSiteRx™ Remote Dispensing Technology Automates Pharmacy Functions in Long-Term Care Market
Date:12/9/2009

First-of-its-kind technology from Talyst helps pharmacies and long-term care facilities improve care quality and safety while also strengthening process efficiencies.

(PRWEB) December 9, 2009 -- Talyst is demonstrating its InSiteRx Remote Dispensing System this week in Las Vegas at the 44th Annual Midyear Clinical Meeting of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. The InSiteRx™ system provides pharmacist-approved medication dispensing on-location at long-term care facilities. The new technology helps long-term care facilities improve quality of care for their residents and create better work environments for their nursing staff.

InSiteRx is a freestanding secure dispensing unit housed on-location at long-term care facilities, eliminating surplus medications and reducing trips to care facilities by the pharmacy. The advanced technology is automated, accurate, and can quickly dispense pharmacist-approved medications at the facility before each medication pass, or on-demand to facilitate new residents, STAT orders, First Doses, and PRNs.

“In early installations of InSiteRx, nursing medication prep time was reduced by about 75%,” said Carla Corkern, Talyst CEO. “In addition, medications for new patients, or changes to an existing patient’s medications, are available to nursing staff immediately. Leading pharmacies and facility chains recognize InSiteRx as a solution that saves time while creating a safer medication process.”

With InSiteRx, opportunity for error is diminished because pharmacist-approved medications are dispensed directly before medication passes. This ensures the most current prescriptions are being administered and reduces the opportunity for human error. It also eliminates issues associated with blister packs. Those using InSiteRx have demonstrated that it takes nursing staff a fraction of the time previously required to dispense medications. Many national Talyst partners are already benefiting from the advanced technology, including: Senior Care Pharmacy of Florida, Wellfount Pharmacy of Indiana, Vantage Care Apothecary of Pennsylvania, and Maine Veteran’s Homes.
