New Clinic Facilities Unveiled at Rio Garment S. de R.L. in Honduras

SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- In the latest in a series of moves designed to promote the health and well being of its employees, knitwear manufacturer Rio Garment S. de R. L. has unveiled a new, full-service medical clinic at its sewing facility in Zip Rio Blanco in San Pedro Sula.

Staffed by a full-time, in-house doctor and nurse, the clinic operates under an agreement between the Instituto Hondureno de Seguridad Social (IHSS) and Rio Garment, and is incorporated into the Sistema Medico Empresarial. The clinic, which includes private treatment areas, is certified by government authorities. Following the facility's opening, the company's employees can now receive prompt medical care on site at no cost, including preventive care, drug prescriptions, prenatal care, nebulizer therapy, rehydration, treatment for injuries, referrals to specialists and many other services -- all without having to go to public clinics.

The clinic is the latest component in Rio Garment's social responsibility and community action program that already included fully subsidized transportation in private buses for workers who live outside of the city, as well as interest-free loans for employees.

"This model healthcare clinic reinforces our dedication to providing a safe and healthy working environment in a well maintained facility complete with air conditioning and abundant potable drinking water. The plant complies with OSHA standards for emergency exits, aisles and other safety-related issues," said Cynthia Chavarria, General Counsel, of Rio Garment. "We also recently invested thousands of dollars to renovate the plant's bathroom facilities, raising them well above industry standards."
