New Best Drug Rehabilitation Blog Post Helps Parents Teach Their Kids about Drugs and Alcohol
Date:12/23/2013

(PRWEB) December 23, 2013

Parents who need some tips and advice on how to teach their kids about drugs and alcohol are encouraged to check out a new blog post from Best Drug Rehabilitation.

“Children today are essentially being `miseducated’ on the dangers and risks of alcohol and drugs through advertising, media, and the behavior of so-called role models who fail to recognize the influence they have on their legions of impressionable fans around the world,” commented Best Drug Rehabilitation’s CEO Per Wickstrom.

As the blog post highlights:

  • In the US, drugs are responsible for a death every 14 minutes – outnumbering traffic fatalities.
  • The spike in prescription drug above has reached epidemic proportions.
  • An estimated 10 million kids in the US are taking psychotropic drugs (antidepressants, stimulants, etc.) for educational and behavioral problems.

With respect to teaching kids about the risks and dangers of alcohol and drugs, the blog post advises that parents must first educate themselves on the facts before they attempt to teach their children. After that, they can try:

  • Coaching their children through scenarios to see how they respond to peer pressure.
  • Allowing their children to watch interviews with former addicts, so they can get a starkly realistic understanding of the real world dangers.
  • Establishing and enforce family policies around alcohol and drug use – and be consistent.
  • Developing a family environment that is supportive and nurturing.

“Kids today are exposed to alcohol and drugs at a shockingly early age, and so parents shouldn’t wait until they detect a problem – or one is brought to their attention by teachers, other parents or law enforcement officials – before they reach out and start communicating with their kids,” added Per Wickstrom. “And above all else, the key is communicating instead of lecturing.”
