NetLearning to Offer American Heart Association e-Learning Courses

New online option for CPR training available to healthcare professionals

DALLAS and CLIFTON PARK, N.Y., Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- NetLearning, a leading provider of e-Learning solutions for healthcare training and part of Cengage Learning, today announced it will offer a portion of initial or renewal certification for the American Heart Association's Basic Life Support (BLS) online via NetLearning's Learning Management Systems.

The course, BLS for Healthcare Providers Part 1, delivers the cognitive learning portion of the association's certification training through web-based, self paced modules, now directly available to over 500 healthcare organizations and more than one million learners nationwide currently using a NetLearning LMS.

With the online component completed at the learner's convenience, Authorized American Heart Association Training Centers with a NetLearning LMS will now be able to increase and improve the variety and quality of their BLS training initiatives for healthcare professionals via a blended learning solution.

"Blended learning has evolved as a truly integrated approach to increase comprehension and optimize learner retention via a program of multiple interactive media types and traditional instructor-led training," said Cathy Esperti, Vice President, NetLearning. "In fact, studies have shown that a blended approach to BLS and CPR training results in better outcomes. The American Heart Association's requirement for learners to complete hands-on skills components in order for learners to receive their healthcare provider course completion card creates a unique need in professional healthcare training that NetLearning is very excited to support."

NetLearning's Learning Management Systems drive blended professional training workflows that free up both instructors and learners, increasing time on the floor and improving the quality of patient care. Hospitals will use this solution to:

  • Automate renewal assignments and reminders to ensure staff competence and preparedness
  • Assign both the BLS HCP Online Part 1 and the in-person skills assessment at the same time
  • Track attendance at the instructor-led skills assessment with automated data collection tools like barcode and magnetic stripe badge scanners
  • Record completions of the online course and in-person skills assessment on user transcripts

The American Heart Association provided the first CPR guidelines in 1966 and updates them every five years. Their courses have trained millions of people and created a national network prepared for Basic Life Support emergencies. Through NetLearning, the association will bring this vital training to a wider base of healthcare professionals, helping to save more lives in the 21st century.
