National Survey Reveals Most Renters Want What They Do Not Have: On-Site Workout Facilities
Date:2/28/2008

Health-conscious renters told Apartments.com, during national heart awareness month, they would step up weekly workouts with the addition of

on-site fitness facilities offered by the apartment community

CHICAGO, Feb. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The majority of renters lead a healthy lifestyle by eating right and working out on a weekly basis, but would also prefer to step up their current workout routine with convenient access to workout facilities. During national heart awareness month, Apartments.com conducted a fitness and nutrition survey to renters nationwide, and found an overwhelming majority of renters surveyed (77%) said they would increase weekly workouts with the addition of on-site workout facilities offered by the apartment community.

While almost sixty percent of renters surveyed workout on a regular basis-thirty-six percent workout two to three times a week and eighteen percent workout out more than five times a week-the two most popular reasons for not working out were not having a gym nearby and lack of on-site workout facilities cited by thirty-one percent of respondents. Reasons closely following included getting motivated (28%) and working long hours at work (26%).

In addition to maintaining an active exercise routine, renters maintain a healthy diet. Sixty percent of renters surveyed said more than fifty percent of the food stocked in their apartments is both healthy and nutritious.

While the majority of renters surveyed (74%) said they would still rent an apartment if workout facilities were not included, Apartments.com has seen a nationwide renter demand for on-site workout facilities over the past year. "Health facility" was searched more than 3.4 million times on Apartments.com in 2007 by renters across the country.

However, renters seeking motivation can still get fit without leaving their apartment by checking out "Working Out in Your Apartment" and "10-Minute Home Workout" in the "Health and Fit
