Date:1/22/2009

ITASCA, Ill., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Safety Council invites businesses worldwide to apply for the 2009 Robert W. Campbell Award, which recognizes organizations that demonstrate excellence in business performance, employee safety and health, and environmental responsibility.

Campbell Award winners prove that environmental, safety and health management is inseparable from operational excellence and financial success. Winners are chosen by an international panel of experts in management, labor, academics and government who also provide an evaluation report to applicants for use in further improving their companies. Awards are presented in two categories: businesses with more than 1,000 employees and businesses with up to 1,000 employees. Winners will be announced at the NSC's 2009 Congress & Expo, Oct. 23-30 in Orlando, Fla.

Campbell Award winners serve as the basis of case studies used by business leaders and business schools worldwide. For more information and application criteria, visit www.CampbellAward.org.

Sponsored by the National Safety Council and underwritten by the ExxonMobil Foundation, the Campbell Award aims to improve lives and businesses by promoting leading-edge environmental, health and safety systems. Past winners include Noble Corporation, Johnson & Johnson, Alcan Inc., DynMcDermott Petroleum Operations Company, The Bahrain Petroleum Company, Fluor Hanford, and Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company.

The National Safety Council (www.nsc.org) saves lives by preventing injuries and deaths at work, in homes, communities and on the roads through leadership, research, education and advocacy.
