National Preparedness Month. Are You Prepared?
Date:9/9/2009

WESTON, Fla., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- September is National Preparedness Month. In the event of an emergency are you prepared and what can you do to if you aren't?

Because emergencies and disasters can happen anytime, the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is reminding you that everyone can take a few steps now to better prepare themselves and their families before the next emergency strikes. FEMA encourages you to visit www.Ready.gov for preparedness information.

Sponsored by FEMA's Ready Campaign and the Citizen Corps, National Preparedness Month focuses on changing perceptions about emergency preparedness. The National Preparedness Month Coalition is open to all public and private sector organizations and encourages organizations to help spread the word via news advisories, PSA's and press releases.

Announcing the sixth annual National Preparedness Month, acting FEMA Regional Administrator Dennis Hunsinger said, "We urge every American to take the steps necessary to keep their family safe, which include getting a kit, making a plan, being informed and getting involved."

Health and Safety products company, American Scientific Resources, Inc. (Pink Sheets: ASFX), will play its part by:

  • Distributing preparedness information to stakeholders
  • Including preparedness information in its websites, emails, and invoices
  • Writing opinion editorials regarding the importance of emergency preparedness
  • Participating in other activities to bring further attention to National Preparedness Month with an emphasis on family and children's preparedness.

About The Ready Campaign

Ready is a national public service advertising (PSA) campaign designed to educate and empower Americans to prepare for and respond to emergencies including natural and man-made disasters. The goal of the campaign is to get the public involved and ultimately to increase the level of basic preparedness across the nation. Ready and its Spanish language version, Listo (www.listo.gov), ask individuals to do three key things: (1) get an emergency supply kit, (2) make a family emergency plan, and (3) be informed about the different types of emergencies that could occur and their appropriate responses.

About Citizen Corps

Citizen Corps is a grassroots initiative to strengthen America's communities and increase their resiliency to the wide array of natural and man-made hazards that threaten our safety and security. The program was created in 2002 and is headquartered in the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Community Preparedness Division. Inspired by the vast outpouring of spontaneous volunteer support after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Citizen Corps strives to answer the essential questions "What can I do?" and "How can I help?" in a meaningful way. Citizen Corps does this by providing local opportunities for Americans of all abilities to prepare, train and volunteer to help address all types of natural and man-made hazards. Please visit citizencorps.gov for more information.
