PITTSBURGH, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- InformationWeek magazine, one of the nation's leading information systems publications, has ranked Highmark Inc. 62nd in its annual ranking of the top 500 innovators of information technology.
Highmark, which is ranked second in the health insurance field and fourth in the insurance industry overall, moved up in the rankings from 170th last year.
Tom Tabor, Highmark's senior vice president of information services and chief information officer, attributes the jump in the rankings to the major steps Highmark is taking to meet health care consumers' demands for increased flexibility in services and products.
"Highmark is continually looking for new ways to better serve our members, physicians and others with whom we do business," said Tabor. "With that in mind, we embarked on the five-year Legacy Modernization program in 2006 focused on enhancing core business processes and technology. During the first year of the program, we were successful in introducing initiatives that resulted in costs savings and new capabilities to better serve our constituents' needs."
For 19 years, InformationWeek has identified and honored the nation's most innovative users of information technology with its InformationWeek 500 listing. Companies named to the list demonstrate a pattern of technological, procedural and organizational innovation.
