National Kidney Month 2010: Stories of Hope About the Prevention and Maintenance of Kidney Disease from The Kidney TRUST
Date:3/1/2010

ed my diet, started working out three times a week, and lost about 20 pounds.”

There are also stories to be told by people who have already experienced kidney failure. Over the past year the TRUST has piloted a financial assistance program for people on dialysis who are having trouble managing co-pays, co-insurance and deductibles for medical treatment, services, and prescription drugs. Since the start of the program over 600 grants have been awarded and approximately $1.2 million in funds committed to grant recipients.

One grant participant from New Mexico put it this way: “The grant was simply a godsend for me and the entire family. We were really struggling. I was starting to think about skipping some of the drugs I was supposed to be taking and splitting pills to make them last. With the grant, all the worry went away. It was really the missing piece of the puzzle.”

The Kidney TRUST was founded in 2006 by DaVita Inc., a leading provider of kidney care in the United States. The Kidney TRUST is an independent, nonprofit organization that believes everyone should be empowered to take a proactive role in their health.
