National Cancer Institute Selects Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide for Comprehensive Multi-Year Communications Support

WASHINGTON, Dec. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide (Ogilvy PR), an integrated global communications firm, announced today that it has been awarded a five-year comprehensive communications support contract with the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Office of Communications and Education. The work will be performed by Ogilvy PR's Washington, DC-based Social Marketing team in collaboration with the company's life sciences consulting subsidiary, Feinstein Kean Healthcare (FKH).

"This is a very important new relationship for us," said Tom Beall, managing director of Ogilvy PR's global Social Marketing Practice. "This work with NCI builds upon our years of experience in promoting cancer prevention and early detection, as well as FKH's deep credentials in cancer that include longstanding efforts on behalf of NCI. These capabilities, along with our experience working with other federal government agencies on major health issues, place the Ogilvy Team in a very strong position to contribute to NCI's efforts to combat cancer - an opportunity and responsibility we take very seriously."

The Ogilvy Team will work with NCI to create a comprehensive communications platform reflecting the mission of NCI and its commitment to ensure that "Everything we do at NCI begins and ends with real people; those with cancer, those at risk for the disease and those who care for them." The task order contract will include strategic planning, materials development, campaign development, professional and technical communications, special audience efforts, special events, and other activities.

"Each year, more than 1.4 million Americans are diagnosed with cancer and millions of families, caregivers, communities, and businesses experience the devastating effects of cancer," said Craig Martin, managing director and chief operating officer of FKH. "Thanks in large part to the efforts of NCI, we are making major strides in our understanding of cancer and in the translation of that understanding to new ways of treating and preventing cancer. The Ogilvy Team is honored to have the opportunity to apply our deep understanding of the cancer field and our unique abilities in strategic communication planning, science communications, and cancer community and constituency development to help fulfill the mission of NCI."

Ogilvy PR's team will be supported by The Media Network and DB Consulting Group, both Silver Spring, MD based companies. Initial funding for the first year of the contract is $2.8 million and work begins immediately.
