NAPW honors Sharon A. Murri as a 2013/2014 Professional Woman of the Year for leadership in occupational therapy with this prestigious distinction. As the largest, most-recognized organization of women in the country, spanning virtually every industry and profession, the National Association of Professional Women is a powerfully vibrant networking community with nearly 500,000 members and over 400 Local Chapters.
“As a future occupational therapist, my areas of interest and practice include restoring young women and widow-orphans to a life free from occupational barriers,” says Ms. Murri, who spent over 30 years in the military. Over the last two years, Ms. Murri’s current mission has evolved from working primarily with elderly-orphans to working on the front line of countries where women are forced to give up their children to put food on the table.
Ms. Murri was first motivated to extend her services overseas after a trip to Haiti in 2010 where she felt inspired to heal and help the poor, widowed and orphaned. Two years later as a traveling occupational therapist, Ms. Murri still uses her expertise and gentle approach to heal those in need and to gain the knowledge and funding needed for her continued mission work. She utilizes the core values instilled during her lifetime in the military of loyalty, duty, respect and selfless service to guide her mission in helping others every day.
Ms. Murri participates in many activities that enrich her civic connections to the community and is devoted to various veterans’ associations, as well as her own nonprofit corporation “On A Mission To Walk Paper Scissors The World.” In January 2014, she plans to continue her passion by traveling to the West Virginia Blackfeet Indian Reservation for additional fieldwork. “I know the Lord has a great plan in store for me that finds both balance and fulfillment in this new chapter of my life,” she says.
NAPW provides an exclusive, highly advanced networking forum to successful women executives, professionals and entrepreneurs where they can aspire, connect, learn and achieve. Through innovative resources, tools and benefits, professional women interact, exchange ideas, advance their knowledge and empower each other.
