Narconon Astore Brings Drug-Free Message to "Volunteer Night of the Angels" in Italy

Every year, the residents of Fabriano, a small town in the Marche Region of Italy, celebrate the town’s strong tradition of volunteerism with a special event. In one of the oldest districts of the historic town, the parked cars are cleared away to be replaced by dancers, singers, children in face paint, displays of athleticism and tributes to those who volunteer.

All around the old square, volunteers build booths to share their experiences and successes with the townspeople and invite participation. Every year, Narconon Astore, with a drug rehab facility located nearby, joins in by providing drug education activities for its neighbors, young and old.

Among many other activities each year, Narconon staff ask the residents of the city to sign a drug-free pledge. This year, the Mayor of Fabriano, Dr. Giancarlo Sagramola, was among the first to sign the pledge under the words, "I promise to stay away from drugs and alcohol and to testify to my friends the satisfaction of a sober life and help as best I can those who fall into the trap of addiction." Over the course of the event, hundreds of people signed their names.

The president of Narconon Italy, Ugo Ferrando, came to help hand out drug education materials and talk to the residents about solutions to addiction offered by Narconon Astore. "A positive event like this is always an inspiration," he said. "We had a chance to educate many of the area's children on the harm drugs can do and share our successes with others who are working for the good of the community."

This year, the event took place during the evenings of the 30th and 31st of August. Narconon Astore was joined by groups helping the disabled, children and animals. Thousands of people were called to the event by the ringing of the town’s cathedral bell.
